چکیده

Millimeter-sized crystals of formula Ge1?xSixO2, i.e. GeO2 materials partially substituted by SiO2, were obtained for the first time both in middle and Si-rich parts GeO2–SiO2 composition domain (0.5 ?? ?x ?0.93) spontaneous nucleation using high-temperature flux method. The X-ray crystal diffraction (XRD) data at room temperature confirm non-centrosymmetric ?-quartz-type structure low level defects these as-grown materials. silicon content Ge1?xSixO2 was determined interpolation from inter-tetrahedral bridging angle. complete mutual solubility is confirmed between ?-SiO2 ?-GeO2. deviation regularity TO4 tetrahedra (T ?= ?Si, Ge) decreases linearly when Ge gradually replaced Si.

Combining precession electron diffraction data with X-ray powder diffraction data to facilitate structure solution

Information derived from precession electron diffraction (PED) patterns can be used to advantage in combination with high-resolution X-ray powder diffraction data to solve crystal structures that resist solution from X-ray data alone. PED data have been exploited in two different ways for this purpose: (1) to identify weak reflections and (2) to estimate the phases of the reflections in the pro...

Effect of impurities on the optical properties of KTP single crystals grown from flux

In the present work, KTP crystals have been grown by spontaneous nucleation technique in flux medium using K6P4O13 flux. 0.4-1 °C/h cooling rates were applied in the spontaneous nucleation process. The presence and amount of impurities has been determined by using XRF. The optical transmission spectra of impure KTP crystals in the UV–visible region are discussed. The transmission cut-off is cle...

Solution of the phase problem in the theory of structure determination of crystals from x-ray diffraction experiments.

We present a solution to a long-standing basic problem encountered in the theory of structure determination of crystalline media from x-ray diffraction experiments; namely, the problem of determining phases of the diffracted beams.

Molecular structure from X-ray diffraction

While there are some developments in structure solution and refinement, these represent gradual improvements rather than fundamental leaps in methodology. An exception is the assessment of crystal quality by X-ray diffraction topography using a dedicated solid-state electronic detector; this is an elegant example where the precise physical nature of the crystal has been studied and analyzed. Si...

3 Molecular structure from X-ray diffraction

Recent developments in the determination of molecular structures from X-ray diffraction data are discussed. While the problems associated with chemical crystallography using single crystals have largely been solved, those with structure from powders and of macromolecules are still the subjects of active research. New and improved methods in structure determination in both these fields dominated...
